NOT A VISUAL DESIGN CONTEST Do you design online user interfaces? Make a 'registration' form, an 'upload' form, a peer editing user interface, a 'profile' page, a feedback form and your opinions on improvement. I need a quality design of a web-based editing solution students can use. I have nonfunctional examples to help build the site from scratch. I included bulleted 'statements of work' that attempt to describe what will happen functionally. Most of the effort should be spent crafting variations of an excellent peer editing interface. Use Javascript, XHTML, HTML5, Apache, Ajax or whatever language you believe works best. I will want a version 2.0 next that will expand into a live website if this is done well. I will need to see the whole version 1.0 running on a development web server upon completion. I will be available to answer questions but no more than 1 per day. Communication will not increase or decrease the quality of your design. Criteria: 20% Basic functionality that I can say works. Forms execute and save variables. Links, notifications and lists appear. The essay can be uploaded, pasted, downloaded, and copied. Registered users are treated differently. Assuming users don't try to break the site, it doesn't fall apart. 75% An excellent peer editing interface (see Edit, Author, and Demo UI). It's use will be so simple that actions require a single click. It might react to the user, implement a new mashup well, or solve a problem I hadn't realized. The look might be completely different but produce better text as an end result. It is really a usability contest. 5% Comments on what will make the site better in web page form. What would delight users? What might not satisfy them now with the bare-bones version? 0% Artistic design It can look ugly and win with the best text-editing solution. In fact, the look of the site will be based off the shapes and feel of the editing user interface. This includes a dull text box style. Award: Give me a day or so after the contest end time to read submissions, visit hosted peer editing sites, glean recommendations, test functionality and try everything out as a registered user. I will choose the winner at 2:00 UT on 4/22/2013. For the Handover I will expect the one winner to message or submit a statement "I 'name' aka 'freelancer profile' am selling the code enclosed along with the full copyright, patent rights, international rights, future rights, including any and all intellectual property claims to Tom Cox upon receiving $256.00 payment." $256 I have deposited will be awarded to through Freelancer.com ASAP (Prize: 256)
