I'm bidding on a project for a customer, and they want to see how I would redesign a simple UI element for both normal web browsers and for small screens. Attached is the current mockup. You can see this is a set of messages with a subject and body, along with some menu links. Within the message body, there may be simple questions that require a response from the user. Pretty simple stuff.
What I'd like to see is a single HTML page that implements a much better, more modern UI design. The page has to allow me to toggle between large and small screen layouts, so this should be a responsive design. All content can be static, but I could see adding some fancy JQuery transitions, maybe when clicking different messages. Feel free to use dummy text wherever necessary ("lorem ipsum dolorum").
I heard internally that the CEO hates the Outlook-like design and wants something that doesn't look so plain and old. So feel free to let your creative juices flow and to totally rethink the samplelayout. For example, the list of questions on the left seems like it ought to be a menu or horizontal list of buttons, rather than taking up all that space. Also, the red lamp indicating a pending message seems like a bad queue, like the user made an error. In fact, that entire top bar is horrible, for example, why is the Get Help button where it is?
Again, there's no back end required for this, and I'm just looking at the one HTML page (plus whatever CSS and JS is required). I'm looking for modern and inviting, and by all means, CHANGE ANYTHING you don't like in the mockup, as long as you can explain why. I think my proposal will be more successful if I can point out bad ideas in, and a better solution to, their current design.

Howdy!
I am looking for someone to help me design a logo for my newly opened consulting firm. The firm is called ikap Global LLC. We work to connect entrepreneurs, businesses & institutions in the US & Europe with up and coming companies in and across the continent of Africa. Basically, we help foreign (foreign in this sense is any company not from Africa) companies get into the African business market, by introducing them to the local connections and companies to allow them to realize their business dreams. In short, we serve as the link between companies with interests in capitalizing of Africa's massive market, and the local connections these companies need to allow them to execute their dreams.
All that said, "ikap" stands for "I know a person" because the model behind the business is that no matter where in the world you are, or what your business idea may be, "I know a person" that can help you make your dream a reality.
As for the logo itself, I only have a few specific requirements or recommendations. I am not set on any color schemes, I just ask that you keep it down to 2 colors max. Also, I am looking for the logo to be rather simple, and have the ability to stand alone as a representation for the company if no words are included. (That doesn't mean it cant have words, I just want it to be able to be recognizable, and not be words. Think the McDonalds logo, you dont need to read the name underneath it to know what company that is.) I just ask that you take some time and portray what you think most clearly captures the idea I have shared.
A couple more things to keep in mind, the personalities and ideologies of our founders are very important to our company. Our company is based in Austin, Texas, a city known for its modern, unique, progressive, hipster, eccentric flavor. In case you don't know, Austin prides itself on having a lot of live music, great food from all over the world, being a little weird/different, and being really laid back all while being the capital of the biggest state in the USA, (except Alaska but no one cares about them.) Think of the city as the business professional with a nice suit, but who may have a beard, rolled sleeves and with great taste in music.
We are a young start-up company, run by young, motivated people and we want the logo to portray this sense of expression, and personality. I also ask that something "Africa" is somehow incorporated into the logo in a subtle way. I want to emphasize the subtle part, because I believe this will be one of the most important features. While the company's work focuses on Africa, I do not want it to be misrepresented as an African company. It is an Austin-based company that focuses on the development of new businesses, ideas, and partnerships with other companies around the world and together we go to Africa.
Finally, I will include some words that we have set aside as trigger words that best describe our company. (This is a new technique that I am employing, if you would let me know whether it was helpful to you I would greatly appreciate it.)

Project Description:
I have a t-shirt design concept I would like created. Below you'll find attachments to give you an idea of what I'm going for. A photorealistic illustration is what I had in mind for this piece.
Attachment 1 gives the general sizing of the artwork of the t-shirt I envision. (ie a vertical rectangle)
The focal point of the t-shirt is Kim Jong-un, the North Korean dictator. Attachment 2 gives an excellent and almost EXACT composition of what I would like created. Given the formatting of the image, you would need to extend the overall height of the creation (to accomplish the vertical rectangle format). In terms of the perspective and distance of the crowd in the image I would like to see them a bit closer to capture some of the detail, but I still want to maintain the imagery of the vast field of people in the crowd. Iâll leave this to you, but perhaps this could be done by lowering the balcony Kim Jong-un is standing on and placing the beginning row of the crowd closer. The fine detail is obviously crucial for Kim Jong-un and perhaps the first couple rows in the crowd. In terms of color I want the entire piece in the black/white gray scale.
NEW EDIT- Lastly, I want SOME of those in the crowd to have fire-emblazed wings and fiery eyes, perhaps using Adobe After Effects. The "fire" elements would be the ONLY colored elements in the piece. Thanks (Prize: 200)
